TW:Blood; What’s wrong with my lady?
Our take
I just got back from rehoming my roo, went to check on my ladies, and I noticed my GLW was pecking her vent. Upon further inspection, I realized it was bleeding and dripping some kind of substance. Any idea why/what this could be? I’m still pretty new in the chicken department, so this is my first issue.
Not sure if it makes a difference, but she’s my only lady who has yet to lay as well. She’s around 6-7 months old. It’s also hard to get close to her as she’s the wildest of the bunch and always runs (her name is literally Roadrunner). I don’t have a vet or anything for them currently, so should I start looking for one? Or is this normal in any way? I know sometimes when hens lay there can be blood, but idk about this. Any info is helpful, and thanks in advance.

- What is happening? Infection? This chicken has been broody for 2 weeks now. I take her out every day and she gets food and water. I did not notice anytbing off yesterday but today she is covered in like blood (and was sitting below a roasting nest, maybe pooped on) and has a raw spot and all around her eyes and comb is red. Acting normal otherwise for a broody girl. Do we think she's getting pecked? Infection? Advise? Im just trying to clean her off right now qnd get some peroxide and neosporin on her submitted by /u/ryuks-wife [link] [comments]
- NSFW: INFECTION? What is going on with my chicken??I came back from a trip a few days ago (i had my friend take care of the birds), and today I noticed a small scab beneath my favorite chicken Rusty’s wing. So, i picked her up to look at it, and I happened to lift up her wing and THE ENTIRE area under her wing was scabbed/infected.. other details: -Rusty is a chicken pretty low on the pecking order, so she currently lives with my small flock of turkeys. -I have never seen any aggression between her and the turkeys (i have a camera on them, i was even checking them while i was away. i’m aware i can’t see everything that happens though) -I already put her in a separate cage in a warm spot in the barn. We are already applying Hen Healer and disinfectants -the other wing is totally fine -My friend who took care of them never noticed any bleeding, and I didn’t either. Thanks so much for the assistance with helping her! What do you think this could be? I’m totally at a dead end right now. submitted by /u/BumblebeeWaste5195 [link] [comments]
- Bloody egg from one of my Bantams – any insights?I have four Bantams turning 1 year old this spring. Two are laying regularly — one started at the end of last year, the other just this spring. Last week, one of them laid a bloody egg. This week she laid two more bloody eggs. She seems totally fine otherwise: eating well, normal energy, no unusual behavior. For context on our flock: we also have 3 Easter Eggers, 4 Salmon Faverolles, and two standard-sized roosters. One rooster is a calm, good protector. The other is a bit too rowdy for the hens (blind in one eye but doesn’t slow him down!) — we’re actually in the process of rehoming him. Both roosters do tend to “favor” one of my Bantams, so I’m mentioning that in case it’s relevant. All the other hens are laying normally. Has anyone seen this before? Could the rooster activity be a factor, or is something else likely going on? Any advice is appreciated! submitted by /u/Honey_Suckle_Nectar [link] [comments]
- Whats going on with this hen?First timer here, i’ve had these girls a little over a year (since they were chicks) and i have recently noticed one of them is developing a bald spot/seems like the feathers on the wings. Is this just from my Roo liking her more than the other 4 or something more serious submitted by /u/Impressive_Love5271 [link] [comments]
