Whats going on with this hen?
Our take
Oh no, the feathered drama unfolds! It sounds like you’ve noticed a little something unusual with one of your hens—specifically, a bald spot on her wings. As a first-time chicken keeper, this can feel a bit concerning, but don’t cluck in worry just yet! There are several reasons for feather loss, including pecking from your rooster, molting, or even stress. It’s important to observe the dynamics in your flock and ensure that everyone is getting along. Checking for signs of feather pecking or irritation can help you figure out if your Roo is a little too affectionate. Let’s dive into this mystery and see how we can help your girl strut her stuff with confidence once again!

| First timer here, i’ve had these girls a little over a year (since they were chicks) and i have recently noticed one of them is developing a bald spot/seems like the feathers on the wings. Is this just from my Roo liking her more than the other 4 or something more serious [link] [comments] |

- Hen or Roo?These gals are probably around 10-12 weeks old. They were sexed at our local Wilco. 4 Easter Eggers out of the 6. I’m worried this one might be a roo. Body type is lankier, tail feathers are longer and getting a shade of green to them. No behavior though that would lead me to believe it’s a roo, FWIW. This is my first time with chickens. submitted by /u/LibrarianFlaky951 [link] [comments]
- Help!Need some insight on what could be the problem here. I currently have 6 hens. Plenty of space to roam in the coop and I let them free range a few hours at least every day. I clean the coop regularly and they dust bathe frequently. They pick at each others feathers and backs, especially the ones in the pictures, and I can’t figure out how to get them to stop. I feed them higher protein feed and clean fresh water. They’ve been this way for months and I hate the way they look. Any ideas???? My black hens and the one RIR don’t have this issue although just recently I’ve seen some bare patches on the necks of the black hens. The ones with almost no tail feathers seem to be picked on the most. submitted by /u/Odd_Jacket8549 [link] [comments]
