broody hen drama?! š
Our take
Ok, so one of my hens, Boujiee (aka Miss Boujiee Butt because her tail feathers were gone and her butt looked a little⦠questionable š), has been hoarding and laying on eggs.
She rarely leaves the coopāand if she does come out (because she knows I have treats), the SECOND I even look like Iām heading toward the coop, she sprints back in, throws herself over the eggs, and instantly turns into a full-blown security system. Like maāam⦠nobody is coming for your children š
Iāve officially decided to just let her have them.
Now hereās where it gets funnyāour other hen, Goldie (because of her pretty golden-laced feathers), will sometimes go sit on the eggs when Boujiee gets up⦠like theyāre co-parenting or splitting custody or something.
BUT TODAY⦠I found TWO eggs just sitting in the middle of the coop. Not in the nest. Not hidden. Just⦠placed there. And it honestly looked like Boujiee moved them so Goldie could sit on those instead of her sacred egg stash.
Like she really said:
āHere. Those TWO are YOURS. THESE are MINE.ā š¤š
Is that even possible?? š Has anyone else experienced this kind of chicken drama??

- How many eggs do your chickens hoard?Iām just flabbergasted at the moment. I have a small flock of about 30 mismatched chickens. 2 of them are currently broody, but I figured let them be. A couple baby chicks couldnāt hurt, right? We can sell some if we need to NBDā¦.. Well, my DIL decided to go check on the broody hens this morning and see how many of the eggs are fertile: 10 under one hen, ***46*** under the other hen. I donāt even understand how this heffa managed to collect and successfully incubate 46 eggs by herself. This is insane š But it got me to wondering if others have ever run into something similar. - my first weird egg!iām not super worried about it because iām pretty sure i know whatās going on. poor donna was broody for over two months and has been dropping eggs in unexpected places (like out in the run) the last three days like she just couldnāt hold them in. so iāve sorta been expecting a fairy egg but didnāt expect it to be soft too! iāve just switched everyone to all flock feed (new chicks) with oyster shells available, so her calcium intake has changed but she knows where to get more. maybe thereās something more i could be doing? the whole gang has just moved into a new coop but donna has laid eggs in the new nesting boxes a couple times so i think she likes it in there alright. we still have the old coop open too but no one seems interested. idk suggestions welcomed (re: the weird laying locations and shell quality) but sheāll hopefully work it out herself! submitted by /u/mensfrightsactivists [link] [comments]
- Hens driving me NutsSooo, My Rosi (Brahma) loves chicks. And because of this she tried everything to steal away the Chicks of the other Hen who went broody first and hatched three Babies. She wasn't interested in brooding herself and I thought : "Get her some day old chickens." Last year, this worked perfectly fine and she raised 8 happy Chickens. So I got four Brahma chicks and Rosi hated them. Pecked on them till they screamed (removed them immediately) and waddle off to try to steal again from the other Hen (Chicks and hen are separated, Rosi has no chance to get them). She still tries like 3-4 times a Day. So now I have four chicks in a Rabbitcage in my Bathroom, an Angry mother Hen who would like to kill Rosi (maybe I thought about joining her for a second) and Rosi, who is still mad at everyone for not getting the Chicks she wants. submitted by /u/Least-Reflection4873 [link] [comments]
