my first weird egg!
Our take

| i’m not super worried about it because i’m pretty sure i know what’s going on. poor donna was broody for over two months and has been dropping eggs in unexpected places (like out in the run) the last three days like she just couldn’t hold them in. so i’ve sorta been expecting a fairy egg but didn’t expect it to be soft too! i’ve just switched everyone to all flock feed (new chicks) with oyster shells available, so her calcium intake has changed but she knows where to get more. maybe there’s something more i could be doing? the whole gang has just moved into a new coop but donna has laid eggs in the new nesting boxes a couple times so i think she likes it in there alright. we still have the old coop open too but no one seems interested. idk suggestions welcomed (re: the weird laying locations and shell quality) but she’ll hopefully work it out herself! - i think my chicken is broken?over the past few weeks, donna hasn’t been able to make it into the nesting boxes with her egg. she’s laid in a box maybe twice all month? i recently moved everyone into a new coop and she’s used those new boxes, and the other two layers are using them just fine. i even left the old coop open to help in case she’s not sure about the new ones. her shell is super thin lately too. i just switched from layer feed to all flock (added a few new chicks) but she still has access to the oyster shells and is definitely eating them. she also gets most of the shell back when i cook up the eggs that break (most of them, since she’s laying on the roosting bar 🥹). she’s about a month past a 10 week broody spell, so i was thinking she’s maybe just backed up and out of practice? which would account for the eggs coming around 5am most days? but i would’ve expected her to get back into the routine by now. i have no idea of her age but is this maybe indicative of her laying cycle coming to an end? anything i can do to help her? submitted by /u/mensfrightsactivists [link] [comments]

- Look one of my bantam’s laid her first egg!At the end of October last year my boyfriend rescued two Old English Bantam chicks. We had a flock that was dumped by their owner in our neighborhood. Every morning 6 chickens would be on our porch wanting food. Of course we started feeding them and it became routine for us to take care of them. Then one day my boyfriend saw one of the hens had two babies chicks running behind her. With them running free we knew those chicks were probably not going to make it against predators. So we took the babies in turned the shed into a coop with a run. And been having the best time watching them grow up. We even got them two more sisters! Yesterday bf was cleaning the nesting boxes and right when he opened one our girl Scoot Scoot was making the noises they make right before laying, however she got spooked and ran out. There was no egg. We decided to go eat and run around for alittle. When we got back I thought to myself go check the nesting boxes maybe she went back and sure enough she did! Being a first time chicken owner it was absolutely exciting and rewarding to see an egg for the first time. We put a lot of TLC into these chickens and now I feel like an official chicken mom! submitted by /u/United-Camel4560 [link] [comments]
- Hen layed small squishy white eggI know this happens every once in a while. Hasn’t happened lately with any of my other chickens so I’m not concerned. Just thought it was kind of cool! Bonus pictures of pretty girls. They are VERY excited to be able to scratch around in the yard again after a long, snowy winter! submitted by /u/No-Handle-5507 [link] [comments]
