Silkie chicks toe
Our take
Oh no, it sounds like your little Silkie chick is having quite the toe-rrible time! It’s heart-wrenching to see our feathered friends in distress, especially when it’s something so unexpected, like a strand of hair causing trouble. Your quick thinking to soak the toe in Epsom salts and apply antibacterial spray shows just how much you care. However, that greenish tint is definitely a cause for concern! Infection can sneak up on us, especially in delicate chicks. While you've tackled skin wounds successfully before, this situation feels different, and it's understandable to feel worried. Let's gather some community wisdom to help ensure your chick’s toe gets the TLC it needs. Any suggestions or experiences to share would be cluck-tastically appreciated!
Yesterday my daughter noticed our chicks toe looked like it was about to come off, after closer inspection I could see that one of my hairs was wrapped around it very tightly. We soaked it in Epsom salts twice and removed most of the strand of hair, I hope. I put the pet antibacterial spray stuff on and the correct kind of triple antibiotic but this morning it has a greenish tint to it and I don’t think it looks any better. I don’t know what more to do and I’m worried it’s infected and will kill her. Any suggestions welcome! So far we’ve dealt with skin wounds and have been successful but this is different I fear.

- Brand new chick with severed toe and a couple seem broken? Already treated but not sure how it happened.I've since cleaned it, dyed her feet blue, and wrapped the bad foot along with ointment. ( Feet blue so they are less inclined to peck at it, my hands are also now fully blue) Not an expert at this at all this was my first Incubator hatch, her and four others. One other has a broken toe but I'm not sure how? There was nothing sharp in the incubator and she couldn't have gotten her toe stuck so idk. I just went on gut of how to treat it I think she'll be fine but idk how she did this. submitted by /u/mindyourownbusiness5 [link] [comments]
- Swollen bottom and eye crusted overSo, I noticed yesterday my chickens eye was creamy and today it is crusted shut. Her butt was also caked with poop so I soaked her in a tub of warm water with an anti fungal soap. Once I clipped the feathers back I noticed a sack (I don’t know if that already exists for a chicken but it’s soft) then once she is out I sprayed her butt and eye with a fungal/bacteria infection spray from the feed store. She is now in a crate away from the other girls while she dries (it’s warm today so she’s comfortable.) in addition her poop is green and runny. Has anyone dealt with this before? No smells coming from her and she seems clean otherwise. submitted by /u/whatsnotmine [link] [comments]
- Scalped chick medical careWhat should I do? I knew sometimes polish got picked on but I wasn’t aware of the extent. They all grew up together and are maybe a month or so old, checked on every morning before work and as soon as I come home. When I left they were fine, so all of a sudden over 9 hours they picked on all 3 of my polish with no previous picking behaviors. This one is the worst- the rest I simply sprayed with something that said is for picking wounds. But what do I do here? submitted by /u/Loveinhooves [link] [comments]
