Is our chicken going blind?
Our take
Is your feathered friend feeling a bit under the weather? If you've noticed your chicken acting sick and potentially struggling to see, you’re not alone! One concerned chicken parent shared their experience with a hen who seemed to have difficulty eating and kept her eyes closed, even spending a night outside the coop. Thankfully, she still has an appetite and stays hydrated! While respiratory issues were initially suspected, the absence of symptoms like a runny beak or cough suggests something else may be at play. With one eye showing limited vision and depth perception off, it's time to rally the community for insights. Join the conversation and see what fellow chicken enthusiasts think—after all, we’re in this clucking adventure together!

| Our chicken started feeling acting sick, like she couldn’t see to eat. Stayed out of the coop one night kept her eyes closed. Except for one we have done the eye test and she’s still got an appetite and drinks, a lot we just brought her in to keep an eye on her. She seems to be getting better. We thought maybe it was a respiratory issue but she’s not having anything like a runny beak or anything she doesn’t have a cough. But she definitely can only slightly see out of one eye and her debt perception is off. So what are yall thoughts? Yes, she is hydrogen and all that in her water. [link] [comments] |

- What’s wrong with my HenMy chicken sally has always held her head slightly tilted and squinted. The last day or two it’s been really extreme though. She still comes and finds us when we enter the run and likes to be held. But she seems like she can’t see very well and isn’t using her wings submitted by /u/PinkFeatheredChick [link] [comments]

- Update on my sick chickenBoth her eyes Are open now, she has some mucus coming out her beak and she’s not letting me touch it. She shows some difficulty breathing at times but not all the time. I have given her some electrolyte water (forced her) and she has has some scrambled eggs. I really hope she feels better soon and any more advice is appreciated! submitted by /u/Shot-Location-4283 [link] [comments]
- I think my Serama is going blindThis is Hazel, she’s 5.5 years old. Her behavior has changed and I think she’s going blind. She still makes her way to food and water and treats. Pooping fine. She prefers to stay in the run and unless the treat is something bigger like a whole cucumber she just snatches at the air around it, only occasionally getting bites. Same when I have her out in the grass, she doesn’t quite get close enough to nibble the grass. She puts herself to bed on the roost about an hour before everyone else. She is a sweetheart and wants to just snuggle 🥰. I have a flock of 8 Serama’s, the oldest two will be 7 this summer :) No real question here, just wanted to share my sweet old lady baby 😊 submitted by /u/ddenovich [link] [comments]
