Found dumped/escaped roo with a cut beak? And hole in head?? And maybe a blind eye? People or chicken damage
Our take
hi! found this dude in my neighborhood. we have feral chickens but they are all in really good shape unlike this new guy. he's got a huge scab on his scalp (presumably from bullying), a literal hole (see last image, it's dry and... deep?), at least one maybe blind eye, and his beak is both cut and it looks like he got the top surface of it shaved down?? (you can see it best on photo 5 I think) I assumed based on all that that he was somebodies. unless a chicken can damage their beak like that by themselves.
anyway, he scampered away from me the first time I noticed him Sunday, but he only ran for a few feet before going back to laying down. he has very little energy and could not roost. he can't jump, either. so I grabbed him last night to give him at least some time in a pen with food and water. and I'm glad I did, he didn't have hardly any food in him for the night.
he's currently eating and drinking. he isn't crowing at all. which is probably a blessing because Im not allowed roosters where I live.
if anyone has any ideas about what life he used to lead, any ideas on what he needs to bounce back, any help at all would be appreciated. not sure what my plan for him long term is, if there is a long term for him. but I'm doing what I can.

- Found a rooster in my driveway yesterdayFound a rooster in my driveway yesterday and posted on my local forum but no one claimed him. I Didn’t know what to do overnight and he had a car slumber party as some redditors told me to do. Built him a little temp home with a burn barrel with some warm leaves but we live next to the woods and I’m afraid of the predators getting him!! Called some rescues and local bird sanctuary’s but I feel like chickens don’t qualify for like anything :( taking him to the vet today and ordered some antibiotics since he has an infection on his rump. Any ideas on what to look into long term since I don’t have anywhere suitable for him? (Tagged as nsfw because of his comb) submitted by /u/MagicianWild6198 [link] [comments]
- Stray rooster found me, any care advice? This pretty guy started showing up 3 days ago and I was finally able to catch him. Despite acting like I was the antichrist previously, he has been super chill post capture. He is separated from my flock for standard quarantine and due to congested breathing. Im treating with VetRX. Questions: When should you start to see improvement if VetRX is helping with a respiratory issue. When would more intense medical intervention be needed? Does it look like he has mites? His legs are certainly on the dusty side and I want to be safe so I dont spread anything. There's been no luck locating his original home so he either escaped and found my flock or was dumped. He's gorgeous - came with nearly every add on installed (5 toes, feathered feet, walnut comb, muffs, cool hat). He was also a gentleman in the short time he was around my ladies, so if no owner shows, im probably keeping him. submitted by /u/Sea-Algae-2971 [link] [comments]

- I was given a chickenHi, my folks have always loved chickens and recently they stumbled upon a group of mixed chicks for free on marketplace. A two were very sick and one didn’t make it but I managed to nurse one back to health. Little guy follows me everywhere and is very friendly despite what I thought I knew about roosters. My only problem is that I don’t know what kind he is or if he’s mixed. Help would be greatly appreciated! submitted by /u/unsolved_Rubiks_cube [link] [comments]
