I was given a chicken
Our take
Meet the charming tale of a feathered friend and a compassionate caretaker! In a delightful twist of fate, the author’s family—longtime chicken enthusiasts—discovered a group of mixed chicks for free on the marketplace. While two of the little ones faced health challenges, one resilient chick emerged victorious, thanks to some dedicated nursing. This newfound companion, a spirited little rooster, has proven to be quite the lovable shadow, following the author everywhere and defying preconceived notions about roosters. However, there's a small hiccup in this heartwarming journey: the author is unsure of their adorable friend's breed or if he’s even mixed. They’re reaching out for assistance to unravel this feathered mystery. Any insights would be cluck-tastic!

| Hi, my folks have always loved chickens and recently they stumbled upon a group of mixed chicks for free on marketplace. A two were very sick and one didn’t make it but I managed to nurse one back to health. Little guy follows me everywhere and is very friendly despite what I thought I knew about roosters. My only problem is that I don’t know what kind he is or if he’s mixed. Help would be greatly appreciated! [link] [comments] |

- chicken breed?Anyone know what breed this fella is? I know absolutely nothing about chickens and work at a horse lesson barn, i think someone dumped her(?) about a week ago. She showed up in one of the pastures with a rooster, but the rooster disappeared and she stuck around. She gets pretty close to us but wont let us pick her up, so I'm assuming she's been around people before. I think my coworker owns chickens at her own farm and brought chicken food for us to give her, but i was curious on what she was lol. I think once we can manage to pick her up, the coworker with chickens was gonna try integrating her into their home group of chickens so she isn't just alone here. She doesn't seem to mind being on her own at least, she's befriended most of our horses lol. Thanks in advance if anyone knows anything about what she is! submitted by /u/SeveralTry3967 [link] [comments]
- Hen or Rooster? …. Or both?!Yesterday I posted about my ‘roosters’ head shaking behaviour, and I was told this is actually a hen, or it was intersex, or it was a rooster. I’ve taken some better pictures and I’d love to know your opinion It does not crow, I’ve had it for a week only and prior owner says it attempts to and then goes silent after the first 0.5 seconds of what sound like a crow… It’s extremely protective of the rest of the flock and acts like a rooster, walks around quite up right and dominate. I am told it is a Partridge Laced Wyandotte, I am not sure if it’s cross breed, google shows me that roosters do not come in this colouring, and that wing shape looks hen to me but I am no chicken scientist Thank you! one very confused chicken owner 🧐 submitted by /u/Adept_Count3578 [link] [comments]
- New chicken can't stand up, but is eating and drinking.Hi guys, I got a new hen for my serama rooster, one of our family members also keeps bantams and agreed to let us buy one of their hens. she seemed fine when we first saw her on the video call, and the first time I touched her a hot noon, which is also the day I bought her,she could stand. I then played with my cousins, because we were set to go home at night , yes I'm a child. so they kept her first in a bamboo chciken cage, then she was there for a few hours. It was very hot out so I'm thinking maybe she had a heat stroke? I didn't think she would be affected because the area at that time was a bit shaded.I know, I was wrong for this. Thank you for your insights, in advance I'm a new chciken keeper so any help would be appreciated, thank you!!! submitted by /u/FreshMeet7529 [link] [comments]
- Gender confused (Plymouth barred rock)Can someone help me work out whether this chicken is a rooster or a hen? I know Plymouth barred rocks are sex linked and I deliberately picked out what I thought was roosters. This guy is roughly 13 weeks old, The brother was 2-4 weeks older and developed both saddle feathers and wattles at 13 weeks but the one pictured has not. He’s mostly white, with big yellow legs, like a rooster. But where’s the wattles? He also acts different, hangs around only people and doesn’t go back to the coop at night but heads towards the house. “Hes” confusing to me Sorry for the bad pics. submitted by /u/Proper-Lead656 [link] [comments]
