Chicks rolling in feed?
Our take
Chicks can be a delightful source of amusement, especially when they start rolling in their feed! It sounds like your little feathered friends are simply enjoying their time in the fun pen you created for them. Fluffing up and rolling around in the food is a quirky behavior that many chicks exhibit as they explore their environment and bond with you. This playful action is often just their way of expressing joy and comfort in their new space. So, rest assured, your chicks aren't acting weird—they're just being their adorable, playful selves! Embrace the moment and continue to hand-feed them to strengthen your bond. After all, who doesn’t love a little cluck-tastic fun?

| This is not my chicken's brooder, but just a little fun pen I put them for the first time today, in so I can sit in it with them and hand feed them, to bond. But these two chicks are doing this funny thing where they're fluffing themselves out and almost rolling in the food and in my hand. They walk normal, they act like normal chicks otherwise and it's the first time I've seen them do this. Is this weird or are they just playing? [link] [comments] |

- Normal behavior? My baby chicks have done this quite a bit and I wasn't sure what behavior this is and if it's normal. They usually do it on my lap or in my hands. I thought that maybe they want a dust bath, but they never seem to do it when they're in the coarse sand that I got for them. Should I be providing something different for them? Also if anyone has any tips for getting their baby chicks to not scratch all of their feed out of their food container would be greatly appreciated! 😅 submitted by /u/byunni-rabbit [link] [comments]
- why do my chicks do this little dance? LOLthey do this every time i clean off their blanket (small rag i keep on top of their heating plate that they like to lay on). they do a little shimmy and i’m not sure why! are they fluffing it up, or something else? whatever it is, it’s funny and adorable! submitted by /u/Somethingwithtoast [link] [comments]
- Normal Silkie chick behaviorThis is my first time owning chickens & I was wondering if this was normal silkie chick behavior! There’s one chick that is always fighting the others & recently has been ganged up on. They accept him in the cuddle puddle at night but they’re squabbling often during the day. They always have fresh food & water & have a heating plate. I have a mirror & a perch in with them, could they be bored & need more stimulation? submitted by /u/Dependent-Caramel589 [link] [comments]
- Is this normal behavior?I assume she is just learning how to dust bathe but wanted to make sure as she’s been doing it for almost 5 minutes straight now. I plan to give them some sand next week. They are 2 weeks old. The other chicks seem to love picking the shavings off of her haha submitted by /u/Gravitys_Bitch [link] [comments]
