Why do people say Sanremo is better than Ventimiglia?

I'll be traveling to Nice as part of a honeymoon trip, we're planning on going to Italy but are having trouble deciding between Ventimiglia and Sanremo. I notice everybody is recommending Sanremo over Ventimiglia and I'm wondering what makes them say that. Specifically, which has better restaurants and better/bigger market shopping. We won't be going on Friday.
