A fire broke out on board the London-registered container vessel EVER LENIENT at PSA Pasir Panjang Terminal in Singapore on April 10.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said it was alerted to the incident at about 3 pm. The fire involved containers on the vessel, which belongs to Evergreen Marine.

Emergency teams responded quickly. Firefighting operations were led by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), with support from PSA Singapore’s Emergency Response Team.

SCDF’s Marine Division vessels were also deployed. MPA sent three patrol craft to the scene to carry out seaward cordon duties and used drones to monitor the situation from above.

At the time of the initial update later that night, firefighting was still ongoing.

All crew members on board were accounted for. No injuries were reported and there was no oil pollution.

MPA confirmed that port operations at Pasir Panjang Terminal were not affected. Safety measures were put in place around the affected berth while normal activities continued.

Firefighters worked through the night and the fire was later extinguished. SCDF teams continued cooling operations to make sure there was no remaining heat in the affected area.

Following the incident, PSA Singapore began handling the safe discharge of the affected containers as part of follow-up operations.

The EVER LENIENT is a 334.8-metre-long container vessel built in 2014. MPA has started an investigation to find out what caused the fire.
