Found these old cameras — worth restoring or just display pieces?
Hey everyone,
I recently came across these four old cameras (photo attached) and I’m trying to figure out if it’s worth bringing them to a camera shop to get checked/restored, or if I should just keep them as shelf pieces.
From what I can tell, there’s:
• A Nikon film SLR F-601 • A Yashica MG-1 • A Yashica full automatic with auto focus motor • And a small Kodak fun aquatic I have no idea if any of them still work — they’ve been sitting unused for years. I’m also not sure how expensive repairs for something like this usually are compared to just buying a working film camera.
For those of you with experience:
- Is it generally worth trying to revive cameras like these?
- Are any of these models particularly worth saving?
- What should I check myself before taking them to a shop?
- Roughly what kind of cost am I looking at for basic servicing?
I’m not opposed to shooting film if they can be brought back to life, but I don’t want to sink money into something that isn’t practical.
Appreciate any advice 🙏
