What to do for chicken?

Our take

Oh no, it sounds like your Polish chicken has had quite the rough time! Those pecks to the head can lead to some serious business, and it’s great that you’ve been proactive by separating him from the flock and providing electrolytes and mash. Dilated pupils and balance issues can be concerning signs, possibly indicating some brain swelling from those pesky pecks. While Vaseline can aid in healing, you might consider using Blue-Kote to prevent any further pecking and help with the healing process. Monitoring him closely is key—if you notice any changes or if he seems to be in distress, don’t hesitate to consult a vet. Your feathered friend is lucky to have such a caring chicken parent looking out for him!

What to do for chicken?

Our polish chicken has gotten a significant amount of pecks to the head. Came back from being gone for a few days and noticed he had dilated pupils, balance issues, and falls asleep often. The first two photos are from Tuesday and the last photo is from today (Friday). We have had him separated from the flock so that his head can heal and have been giving him electrolytes and mash. Also have been applying Vaseline for healing. Seems like he might have some brain swelling from the pecks. His condition doesn’t seem to be improving or getting worse and he also doesn’t seem to be in pain, just some brain damage. Is there anything else we should be doing to help him recover? Maybe some Blue-Kote?
