Trying to work out if my aracunas are Roosters or Hens
Our take
Are you scratching your head over whether your Aracunas are roosters or hens? You’re not alone! Many chicken enthusiasts find themselves in this feathery dilemma, and it can be tricky to tell the difference, especially with young chicks. Based in New Zealand, our friend u/ThrowawayAd5053 has some adorable coop photos (sorry for the not-so-great quality!) of two chicks they’ve raised since day one. While they’re 99% convinced that both are roosters, they’re reaching out for some expert opinions to confirm their suspicions. The appearance of Aracunas can indeed vary by region, so if you have a keen eye for chicken anatomy or a soft spot for these quirky birds, lend a hand and help decipher this cluck-tastic mystery!

| Excuse the bad coop photos. I got these two from a day old, and I'm unsure if they are roosters. I'm 99% sure they both are, but I'm hoping someone who knows their chickens would be able to help me. Based in NZ, as I know, the breed can differ in looks in different countries. [link] [comments] |

- Is my chick a hen or a roo ?Hello, could someone help me identify whether the black chick is a rooster or a hen. We suspect it being a rooster due to it looking different than its grey colored siblings although they are of the same breed. submitted by /u/peppercinni [link] [comments]
- Hen or rooThey are a New Hampshire, black australorp, and barnevelder. Did I get any Roos? The yellow one is a little feisty! Thank you for any insight submitted by /u/Abcky97 [link] [comments]
- Hen or Rooster? …. Or both?!Yesterday I posted about my ‘roosters’ head shaking behaviour, and I was told this is actually a hen, or it was intersex, or it was a rooster. I’ve taken some better pictures and I’d love to know your opinion It does not crow, I’ve had it for a week only and prior owner says it attempts to and then goes silent after the first 0.5 seconds of what sound like a crow… It’s extremely protective of the rest of the flock and acts like a rooster, walks around quite up right and dominate. I am told it is a Partridge Laced Wyandotte, I am not sure if it’s cross breed, google shows me that roosters do not come in this colouring, and that wing shape looks hen to me but I am no chicken scientist Thank you! one very confused chicken owner 🧐 submitted by /u/Adept_Count3578 [link] [comments]
