Tips for squeamish(?) chicken keepers?
Our take
Hey there, fellow chicken keeper! If you find yourself feeling a bit squeamish when it comes to handling your feathered friends—especially during those nail-wrapping sessions—you’re not alone! Many of us have experienced that queasy sensation, particularly when it involves bumblefoot or a hen who’s lost a claw. But fear not! There are plenty of tips to help you feel more comfortable while still being a caring chicken parent. It’s possible that your discomfort stems from holding the chicken below the heart area, which can be a bit unsettling. So, let’s dive into some cluck-tastic strategies that will empower you to take charge and keep your chickens happy without the fear of fainting!
I don’t know what it is, but whenever I have to hold one of my chickens while someone wraps their feet, I nearly pass out. I assume it’s me being squeamish, usually bumblefoot and currently my hen lost a claw.
Any tips to battle it? I want to be helpful with the birds but also don’t want to pass out. Could it also just be some science of holding a chicken below the heart area? 😔
