This may not look good to you but to me it's the most beautiful walk in the world

| Sophia has been through a lot in the past month and a half. After flying into a fence she broke her leg. Now I know people are going to say we should have put her down and that's she is in pain, but she has gone from not being able to stand, to using a chicken wheel chair, to now walking on her own and will even use her bad foot to scratch her face. We have have bad days and good days, but it is more good then bad, there are days when she needs pain killers and days when she doesn't. but it's night and day compared to when it all happened. She might always limp but I'm glad she is still here with us, letting me spoil her rotten. She has a table for a little bowl of food if she's having a rough day bending down, she gets egg bites for a little power boost and like a pet, you can see her eyes light up. and yes, we still get eggs almost daily from her between that and her hopping along when the snacks get out, I'd rather have a happy limping chicken then one who is gone. - Followup to chicken unable to walkThank you to all who responded to my last post. After over 3 weeks yesterday was the first time she walked properly. She still unsteady und doesn't run like she used to, but in think she'll be fine 🥹 During this time she's been getting multivitamins for chickens in the water, chick feed, calcium supplement and lots of worms and insects and cuddles. 😊 She's still laying like a champ and never stopped, averaging about 3 eggs per week. submitted by /u/phoenixmanzz [link] [comments]
- My hen survived a dog attack, laid 3 eggs, and took a supervised garden stroll like a Victorian lady in recovery 😭💪About a week ago, my sweet (and extremely dramatic) hen was attacked by our dog in what can only be described as one of the worst moments of my life. By the time I got to her, she had a pretty horrific neck injury and I truly didn’t know if she was going to make it. I brought her inside and set up a full basement ICU situation — crate, daily wound care, antibiotic ointment, constant emotional support (for me). Meanwhile, she’s been acting like this is a mild inconvenience at best. Fast forward to today: • It’s been one week • She has laid 3 eggs (because apparently near-death is not a valid excuse to miss work) • Her wound is closing up beautifully (still looks gnarly) • AND today she enjoyed a supervised yard stroll like a tiny Victorian woman convalescing after “a spell” Picture it: gentle pecking, slow dignified steps, pausing to observe the grounds… absolutely zero acknowledgment that she scared 10 years off my life. Pissed I'm about to bring her back to her kennel. She’s alert, curious, chatty as ever, and very much under the impression that she runs this household. I’m still taking reintroduction slow and keeping a close eye on her, but I am honestly blown away by her toughness. Chickens are way more metal than we give them credit for. Her name is Blackhat — which feels less like a name now and more like a warning. submitted by /u/fiddleleefe [link] [comments]
- My last remaining girl enjoyed her sun time ☀️ chicken loafunfortunately another one of my hens passed last month, I was very devastated as I've lost two hens who were my favourite. now it's just this one, who was the bullied hen! She is loving being alone. I was worried but she is so much happier now and it shows, of course I always go up every day and sit with her so I can take the role of being watch whilst she sits in the sun. obviously I always health check her and keep her entertained, but she is absolutely loving being alone so I'm going to keep it like that for awhile. we are hopefully going to get three new girls in a couple months too, a different breed since ISA browns have so many health issues, and she's 3 now, and is enjoying her retirement from egg laying. rip my past two girls who got me through my GCSEs and first year of college, they have been buried with some flowers and I'm going to display their feathers I got above my bed! (yes I made sure to bury them properly!) submitted by /u/-Sky_Lux- [link] [comments]
