Welcome to the whimsical world of egg-laying antics! Last season, we welcomed five delightful Easter Eggers into our flock, and they’ve been making quite the splash (or should we say cluck?) with their colorful contributions. Starting their egg-laying journey in late fall, these feathered friends have continued to surprise us all winter long. One particular hen has taken the prize for quirkiness, consistently laying eggs adorned with a bright blue ring at one end. This peculiarity raises an egg-citing question: as she matures, will her egg-laying style even out, or is this just her unique flair? Join us as we explore the fascinating world of chicken behavior and egg production—because who doesn’t love a little fowl play in their lives?
| | At the beginning of last season we added 5 Easter eggers to our flock. They started laying in late fall, maybe around the end of September to early October, and laid throughout the winter. All the while one of them has been shooting eggs that have a bright/dark blue ring around the end. Will this even out as she gets older, or is there a chance she’ll always be a quirky layer? - Random blue eggs… Do chickens have a monthly cycle beyond the daily egg?I bought four chicks last June to add more egg color to my basket and they started laying consistently around December. I got two marans for dark eggs, an olive egger, and a cream legbar. The marans check out, their eggs are really dark, sometimes speckled, and sometimes have a bloom that makes them look kind of rosy. The one labeled olive egger seems to be laying light brown eggs, which I knew could happen but still, sad. My cream legbar is missing some typical legbar traits and I am pretty sure she is the one laying green eggs, so I am guessing she is actually a mix, basically just another olive egger type. But here is the weird part. Over the last 7 weeks and 5 days I have gotten three blue eggs. The first was January 29, then February 27, and the most recent yesterday March 23. At first I thought maybe my cream legbar was finally starting to lay and would give me blue eggs, but now it is just this random occasional blue egg. - Thoughts on egg discolorationShells seem nice and firm but one of our girls just started laying these with this funny discoloration pattern in the past few weeks - think it is anything to be concerned about?
