Pullet or Cockeral
Our take
Ah, the age-old question of pullet or cockerel—one that has surely left many a chicken enthusiast scratching their heads (and occasionally clucking in confusion). As you prepare to separate your cockerels for processing in a few weeks, it’s only natural to seek a little clarity on the feathered friends in question. With 11 weeks of growth under their wings, you might find some telltale signs that make all the difference. It sounds like you’re leaning toward one being a proud rooster, but that gorgeous second bird has you second-guessing! Fear not, fellow chicken keeper—let’s dive into the details together and confirm their identities, so you can embrace your flock with confidence (and perhaps a dash of denial).

| Before I start separating my cockerals for processing in a few weeks, can someone help me confirm the sex of these two? I assumed the first one was a cockeral weeks ago but second guessing myself on this one. I'm pretty certain the second one is a roo but it's so gorgeous and I'm in denial lol. They're 11 weeks. - Roo or hen?So this dark Brahma has different tail feathers than the rest. They are currently around 7 weeks old. It may be too early to tell if it’s a roo or not but all the others are hens most definitely. They all came from a pullet run. submitted by /u/HopefulArticle6284 [link] [comments]
- Pullet or CockerelJust wondering if anyone can tell if they are both pullet or if I have a cockerel and pullet. They are both the same age. I want to say they are 5 weeks old but I'm not 100% sure as I got them from tractor supply march 20th. Left has longer tail feathers, wattle is bigger and red, and she makes a sound all the time that sounds like a hawk. Right has shorter feathers, wattle is small and not as red. submitted by /u/lilbadboob [link] [comments]
- Two cockerels and a pullet? Whiting true bluesI have three whiting true blues that I hatched, they’re five weeks old. I was so sure that two were Roos and one was a pullet. Two of the had fast comb development while one still has a very small comb still. Now I noticed one of my “Roos” has a smaller comb than the other one and my “pullets” comb is more red! I’m confusing myself 😂 what do yall think? submitted by /u/BubblyTangelo9875 [link] [comments]
- I swore I wasn’t going to ask, but…Hen or roo? In the first photo are two Delawares, six and a half weeks old. The difference in combs has me thinking one is a roo. Second photo is, in theory, a pearl onyx hen. Same age. Certainly the most assertive chicken in the coop, and the biggest, too. submitted by /u/burly_woodcrafting [link] [comments]
