New chickens
Our take
Welcome to the cluck-tastic world of chicken raising! It sounds like you’re off to a great start with your three feathered friends, especially since they’re already discovering the cozy comfort of their coop. As for your question about closing the door at night, the answer is a resounding yes! Closing the coop door helps protect your little chicks from nighttime predators and keeps them safe and sound while they sleep. Think of it as tucking them in for the night. Just imagine them nestled snugly, dreaming of corn and pecking adventures! So, make it a part of your evening routine to check on them and ensure they’re secure. Happy chicken keeping, and may your flock flourish with egg-citement!

| I am new to raising chickens. I have these three youngsters and they began going into the coop on their own just a couple of days ago. I have this small chicken coop and run, which is completely enclosed. My question is do I have to close the door to the coop every night after they go in? [link] [comments] |

- My girls won’t go inside!I’ve had my chickens for about 3 weeks, and about a week ago the girls started to not go inside their coop at night. They have preferred the roof of their coop instead. I have an automatic door set up to close at 9:20pm. It’s pitch black by that time of day. I’ve tried completely deep cleaning their coop and replacing bedding and added a wider roost bar inside the coop, so I’m not sure what else to try! I just transitioned them into the insulated coop with a heat lamp on, should I have a light on inside the coop for day time or just leave the coop door open?Any information is appreciated, I have plymouth chickens and live in Northern Alberta cananda so currently we have spring weather with lows down to -5 some nights and highs of +25 during the day.
