My hen is making a weird wheezing sound, is it a respiratory infection?
Our take
If your hen is making a peculiar wheezing sound but seems to be acting normally otherwise, it might raise a few feathers and questions. Respiratory issues in chickens can be a bit tricky to diagnose, especially when they appear otherwise healthy. While wheezing can indicate a respiratory infection, it’s important to consider other factors such as environmental irritants or even the possibility of an allergy. Observing her behavior, appetite, and the presence of any additional symptoms will be crucial in determining the right course of action. Don’t chicken out on monitoring her closely, as early intervention can make a world of difference. Let’s dive into the potential causes and what you can do to help your feathered friend feel cluck-tastic again!

- Sick henI have a hen I just got the night before last that is not moving as much as the others, and her breathing is somewhat labored. Her butt is flexing as she breathes. I assumed she was egg bound, so she’s in a warm epsom salt bath currently, but then noticed her breathing is a little…raspy? I’m worried it may be something respiratory. She’ll be quarantined from the rest of the flock. What else can I do? submitted by /u/Rachelruthless7 [link] [comments]
- Does anyone know why she’s making this noise?I’ve never heard this noise in my 10 years of having chickens and I was wondering what it meant. I first noticed it around 8 hours ago and it’s almost like she’s breathing but adding noise to the exhales. She is still able to make other normal chicken noises. submitted by /u/Apyqr [link] [comments]
