Mohawk?
Our take
Ah, the mysterious Mohawk chicken! It's a real head-scratcher, isn't it? This feathered friend seems to be strutting around with a hairstyle that could rival even the trendiest of humans. You're guessing it's a hen, but with all the quirks these birds can have, anything is possible! It sounds like your little chick came from a bin labeled RIR (Rhode Island Red), which adds another layer of confusion. Chickens can sometimes throw us for a loop, especially when they don’t fit the expected mold. If you’re feeling a bit lost in this feathered puzzle, you’re not alone! Let's dive into the delightful world of the Mohawk breed together and see if we can crack this cluck-tastic case!

| Any educated guesses on this breed? The Mohawk is throwing me off — hen or rooster? I want to it’s a hen - but 🤷♀️ Edit: Got chick from tractor supply and the bin was a RIR so that’s clearly inaccurate. [link] [comments] |

- Is my chick a hen or a roo ?Hello, could someone help me identify whether the black chick is a rooster or a hen. We suspect it being a rooster due to it looking different than its grey colored siblings although they are of the same breed. submitted by /u/peppercinni [link] [comments]
- Mystery Chick IDThis chick came out of a Tractor Supply bin labeled Barred Rock Pullet, very obviously not, but any guesses what it could be? All black feathers and feathered slate colored legs has me thinking some type mix of Marans. At 8 weeks is bigger than the Silver Laced Wyandottes I purchased at the same time. The comb seems odd to me, doesn’t look like any other chicken I have. Is also very aggressive with one of my 10 week old Easter eggers but mostly ignores all the other chicks in the run. submitted by /u/biskets4all [link] [comments]
- Hen or Rooster? …. Or both?!Yesterday I posted about my ‘roosters’ head shaking behaviour, and I was told this is actually a hen, or it was intersex, or it was a rooster. I’ve taken some better pictures and I’d love to know your opinion It does not crow, I’ve had it for a week only and prior owner says it attempts to and then goes silent after the first 0.5 seconds of what sound like a crow… It’s extremely protective of the rest of the flock and acts like a rooster, walks around quite up right and dominate. I am told it is a Partridge Laced Wyandotte, I am not sure if it’s cross breed, google shows me that roosters do not come in this colouring, and that wing shape looks hen to me but I am no chicken scientist Thank you! one very confused chicken owner 🧐 submitted by /u/Adept_Count3578 [link] [comments]
