In the whimsical world of backyard chickens, it’s easy to overlook the poignant moments that define our relationships with our feathered friends. Penny, who was not even a year old, left a lasting impact on her flock and her human companions, showcasing the joy and love chickens can bring into our lives. As we reflect on her short but vibrant life, we’re reminded of other similar stories in our community, like Speedy, a cherished favorite of one young boy, or the various songs crafted for beloved roosters in our midst, like My song for my rooster Papi. Penny’s story resonates deeply, not just because of the suddenness of her passing but due to the beautifully vivid memories shared by her owner. The simple joys of having a chicken that would randomly jump into your lap or nuzzle against your feet are what make these creatures more than just livestock—they become cherished members of the family. She passed unexpectedly today. She wasn't even a year old. She laid an egg this morning and was running around so happy. No indication what happened. But I don't mean to speculate, what's done is done... I just wanted people to see how beautiful she was.

She would jump on you randomly, she would just sit by your feet and clean herself and you could feel her fluffy head rub against you. She loved to be cuddled and pet, the only one in our flock to enjoy it.

Thanks for being in our lives, Penny. You are so missed.
