started with the runt of my flock getting her back feathers picked but now three out of five of my chickens have pretty severe bald spots on their backs. i’ve tried Durvet no pick’n spray but it hasn’t had any effect. i also use blu-kote if they draw any blood. please give me some suggestions on what else i can do, im at my wits end.

- Help!Need some insight on what could be the problem here. I currently have 6 hens. Plenty of space to roam in the coop and I let them free range a few hours at least every day. I clean the coop regularly and they dust bathe frequently. They pick at each others feathers and backs, especially the ones in the pictures, and I can’t figure out how to get them to stop. I feed them higher protein feed and clean fresh water. They’ve been this way for months and I hate the way they look. Any ideas???? My black hens and the one RIR don’t have this issue although just recently I’ve seen some bare patches on the necks of the black hens. The ones with almost no tail feathers seem to be picked on the most. submitted by /u/Odd_Jacket8549 [link] [comments]
- Feather Picking (?)I’m looking for what has worked with other people to solve feather picking. I have 8 laying hens, all about 1 year old. They spend most of the day in a 12x12 screened off area. All of their butts, except one hen who looks fine, are bare. Most of the front of the necks are also bare. Generally the exposed skin is not irritated-looking, but in the last few days I’ve noticed increased irritation levels. I’ve ruled out mites. I’ve watched my birds quite a bit and have seen them pick themselves and each other. Are they bored? Is their area too small? I feel stuck! submitted by /u/saxmansandiego [link] [comments]
- Scalped chick medical careWhat should I do? I knew sometimes polish got picked on but I wasn’t aware of the extent. They all grew up together and are maybe a month or so old, checked on every morning before work and as soon as I come home. When I left they were fine, so all of a sudden over 9 hours they picked on all 3 of my polish with no previous picking behaviors. This one is the worst- the rest I simply sprayed with something that said is for picking wounds. But what do I do here? submitted by /u/Loveinhooves [link] [comments]
