Does anyone know what this feather condition could POSSIBLY be?
Our take
Hey, fellow chicken enthusiasts! It sounds like you’re in a bit of a feather pickle with your feathered friends. Bullying and pecking can be a real concern in the flock, and it’s tough to see those poor chickens struggling with their feathers. The condition you’ve described, especially with those oddly growing feathers, certainly raises some eyebrows. It’s great to hear you’re trying saddles to help protect them, and giving the one with the raw skin some extra care during the night is a smart move. It’s curious that this has been going on for several months—have any of you experienced a similar feather dilemma? Let’s band together and share insights, because together we can tackle these cluck-tastic challenges!

| I know the are being bullied and pecked to some extent, but the feathers that are growing back look so OFF. I purchased a few saddles to help them not be nipped at and am thinking of pulling the one with the really raw red skin inside to recover better for overnight/early mornings when they aren’t let out. The bullying comes from multiple hens, no one specific hen I could suss out. We also have a roo as well, but again hoping a saddle can fix that. 🤦♀️ This has been going on for several months to a year now, but I’m just so curious if anyone else has EVER seen a feather condition like this before?
