Winnie was euthanized today

Our take

Today, I had to say goodbye to my beloved five-year-old Rhode Island Red, Winnie. She had been dealing with some runny yellow poop and a crusty backside, but her spirited personality never seemed to waver—until recently. Over the last couple of days, she slowed down considerably and hardly touched her food, with her poop turning into clear liquid. A visit to the avian vet revealed a hard mass, and an X-ray suggested the possibility of reproductive cancer. The vet felt there wasn’t much we could do, and it breaks my heart to share this news. If anyone has experienced something similar, I’d appreciate your insights. Winnie brought so much joy to my life, and her absence is truly felt.

My 5 year old Rhode Island Red Winnie had to be euthanized today. She had some runny yellow icky poop for awhile with a crusty butt. It didn’t seem to slow her down and none of my 5 other chickens had this problem. The last two days she slowed way down and wasn’t eating much and her poop was basically clear liquid. Got into the avian vet today and she saw and felt a hard mass. Here is the xray. If anyone with experience can take a look… does this look like reproductive cancer? Vet assumed it was and figured there wasn’t much we could do. I’m sad.
