Meet our latest feathered conundrum from the Tractor Supply bin, a chick labeled as a Barred Rock Pullet but clearly strutting its own unique style! With all-black feathers and slate-colored legs, this little mystery has sparked some serious speculation—could it be a Marans mix? At just 8 weeks old, it’s already outgrowing the Silver Laced Wyandottes purchased at the same time. The comb is a bit of a head-scratcher too, looking unlike any chicken I’ve encountered before. To add to the intrigue, this chick has quite the personality, displaying aggression towards one of my 10-week-old Easter Eggers while mostly ignoring the others.  | This chick came out of a Tractor Supply bin labeled Barred Rock Pullet, very obviously not, but any guesses what it could be? All black feathers and feathered slate colored legs has me thinking some type mix of Marans. At 8 weeks is bigger than the Silver Laced Wyandottes I purchased at the same time. The comb seems odd to me, doesn’t look like any other chicken I have. Is also very aggressive with one of my 10 week old Easter eggers but mostly ignores all the other chicks in the run.
