Baby Chick has a broken leg.
Our take
Oh dear, it sounds like you’re in quite the clucky predicament with your little feathered friend! This baby chick, just three days old, is facing a tough time with a broken leg and some rather peckish siblings. It’s heart-wrenching to see such a tiny creature in pain, especially when all you want is to help. While it’s understandable to feel overwhelmed, there are ways to ease its discomfort and provide care. You can create a cozy environment, assist with feeding, and focus on keeping it hydrated. Let’s explore some gentle strategies to help your chick heal and find comfort, as well as how to navigate this challenging situation without resorting to drastic measures. Your compassion for this little one is truly commendable!

| This baby chick hatched 3 days ago, he couldn’t walk and we noticed the other chicks were eating something from its leg and it started bleeding so we separated it from the others. We gave it water, calcium, vitamins and food, but it cant eat alone from the pain. For a day or two it keeps crying and we realised its leg is broken since we first thought it was a splayed leg, now I think its irreversible, I also cant kill it and vets dont do euthanasia in my country anymore. What can I do? How can I ease its pain or help it? [link] [comments] |

- Help with baby chick, leg problemsHi! My sister had this chick hatch and it cannot walk because its leg and toes are all curled up. At first she thought it was splay leg so we tried some splints, tape, etc but that didn’t seem to help. We have been drop feeding and watering her, and have also given selenium, vitamin E, and electrolytes. She eats decently well when fed, but she can’t walk over to food and water herself. She’s very energetic and vocal, she just doesn’t have the ability to move around and it’s heart breaking. She also doesn’t seem to be growing much — she is 5 days old and her siblings are much bigger than her. My sister has reached out to all the vets in our area and no one is willing/able to take a look, and we desperately want to help this baby. If you have any advice at all, please comment! We would be so grateful, especially as we are still relatively new to having chickens. Obviously we know there is a chance that we will have to put her down but that is absolutely last resort. My sister views her chickens as pets and they are all very precious to her. submitted by /u/JarJarbinks_Just [link] [comments]
- Struggling Baby ChickI'm posting out of serious concern for a recently hatched baby chicken. I'm really worried and sad that the chick may not make it, so I ask for kindness in responses please. My hens have been tending to the eggs. This is my first time having hens to do the brooding and incubation. So far 4 have successfully hatched. This baby chick took over a day to hatch (so officially born fully yesterday evening). I checked up on it this evening and I see that one of its wings and side appear to be damaged (looks like a wound). The damaged wing looks like it may just be a nub? Additionally, on that same side of the chick its leg looks limp (apologies I'm having a hard time describing and it's difficult to take a photo with 2 hens brooding). The baby chick's eyes look like they're now closed, it's still chirping. Any recommendations/ideas/well wishes/thoughts and prayers? Tomorrow morning when the avian vet opens I'm going to call to see if I can bring it in. submitted by /u/ChibiBarbie [link] [comments]
- What’s wrong with my roosters leg 😢For context, he started limping about a year ago and slowly, I noticed his leg got swollen. He would limp a bit, but it was manageable. Eventually, it started swelling up, even thicker to the point you see now and he is at the point he doesn’t even use it at all. I thought maybe it was broken and had kept him isolated in a place in the coop where he could not jump up on anything for a month or so, but that doesn’t seem to help. I’ve tried reaching out to many different organizations near me and nobody can help me. submitted by /u/CYouChai [link] [comments]
- Help baby chicke nI volunteer at a place that has baby chicks, and the main bird volunteer is out of town and one of the babies is not doing well. This morning I found it on the bottom of the container with all the other baby chicks and it looked like it was dead, but it was moving a little so I gave it some egg yolk and Pedialyte mixed in a dropper and held it near the heater (not too close!) alternating betweeen heating it and heating it, for about 90 minutes. It had a lump on its chest, which I just learned is a crop. I had to leave for a while but is there anything I can try to purchase? I usually foster puppies and have lots of experience with sick puppies but none with birds. Please be kind - I am not knowledgeable but willing to read or learn to help until tomorrow when bird person comes back. submitted by /u/EmphasisFew [link] [comments]
